Jean Sheikh

Jean Sheikh is a founding member of the HCE Players and served as the company’s Artistic Producing Director from its inception until 2015. She co-directed the HCE production of Passages from Finnegans Wake; A Staged Reading, at the Modernist Studies Conference in November 2015 and at the Democracy Center in Cambridge, directed an excerpt from Brian Friel’s Translations at the Irish International Immigrant Center in 2013, Telemachus, A Little Cloud, and an excerpt from Translations at Framingham State University, 2012, Bloomsday 2012 at the Irish International Immigrant Center, In Barney Kiernan’s Pub, Christmas Dinner; An Evening with James Joyce, Trip to Cork, and Ithaca, at Boston College and various venues in Boston, and has adapted many of the texts dramatized by the HCE Players from the literary page to the stage, including adaptations of all 15 of the stories in Dubliners, performed in Dublin in 2014. As an actor, she has played numerous roles with HCE, including “A” in Mark O’Rowe’s Terminus. With other companies in Boston, she has worked as an actor with Boston Theatre Works, Small World Big Sky, Devanaughn Theatre, the Bridge Theatre Company, Delvena Theater, Centre Stage, and Amazing Mustache, and in numerous festivals of new short plays. She holds a BA in English Literature from Wesleyan University and an MA in Early Modern European History from Harvard University, and is the sole proprietor of a professional handyperson business in the South End of Boston
